There was some positive news for the Class of 2011, according to NACE’s 2011 Student Survey. In addition to seeing more job offers before graduation, students saw higher average salary offers: 8% higher than 2010 grads. Paid internships were a significant contributing factor for job offers: 61% of paid interns in the for-profit sector received a job offer, compared to 38% of unpaid interns. Speculation about this difference centers on the more professional nature of projects typically involved in paid internships versus unpaid internships.

Seniors reported being more involved in the job search than the Classes of 2009 and 2010. More than one-third of seniors reported attending multiple advising sessions at their college career center. Resume reviews were the most common service used, and mock interviews were one of the most helpful resources reported.

The survey was conducted from February through April 2011. It included nearly 20,000 seniors and 50,000 total students.
